Vancouver Theatre Giveaway: Julius Casear at Langara’s Studio 58

Seems to be a Week of Vancouver Theatre Giveaways here and on Being Emme with Studio 58′s gender bender of a Julius Caesar ticket giveaways here and on Being Emme, and a ticket giveaway for Intimate Theatre Production’s I Love You Because … at Studio 1398 on Granville Island. Must say this rather tickles my fancies to be able to share some of the enjoyable theatre we attend with you, our readers.

Langara’s Studio 58 is putting on Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar from February 2nd – 26th, 2012, but it is a Julius Caesar with a twist.  You see when casting for the play, Director Scott Bellis decided to break with tradition and offer the parts of Caesar, Brutus, Cassius and Octavius to women. A nice mix up for a Shakespeare play if you ask me, as traditionally men would play the roles of both the men and the women in his plays.  What this means for Julius Caesar according to Director Scott Bellis is, “In this alternate telling, we are discovering what it means for a male Mark Antony to avenge a female Caesar; what a same-sex marriage looks like in the house of Brutus;  and how being a ‘man’ can say more about your social status than your gender in this very different vision of Rome.”

Not familiar with the story of Julius Caesar? It’s Shakespeare’s masterpiece of political power-play and manipulation, examining the conflict between one person’s ambition and the good of the state, all set in a life-and-death struggle for control of Rome. A fine escape from the typical mushiness of the month of February.

So the Ticket Giveaway?  We have a pair of tickets to giveaway with your choice of Wednesday February 8th at 8 pm, Thursday February 9th at 8 pm or Saturday February 11th at 3 pm.  To enter:

Vancouver Theatre Giveaway: I Love You Because …

We LOVE Theatre, We LOVE Vancouver and We LOVE to Laugh, so We LOVE that we have tickets to giveaway to the Western Canada Premiere of I Love You Because … in Vancouver from February 8th – 25th, 2012.

I Love You Because … is a modern day musical love story that will have you laughing. Set in New York, it follows four young New Yorkers as they do their best to beat the game of love. Praised by the New York Times as “terrific, refreshing fun – filled with wit and zest.” Vancouver is in for a treat from this hilarious hit musical, described by the Wall Street Journal as “everything an Off-Broadway musical should be … a charming piece of work that will send you home smiling.”

As those of you that read Being Emme are aware, we also LOVE championing the indie theatre scene, and that this is. Written by the new writing team of Ryan Cunningham & Joshuah Salzman for New York’s Off-Broadway, this is the first production of Vancouver’s newest theatre company, Intimate Theatre Productions. The Musical will feature a strong, young, up-and-coming cast (starring Victor Hunter, Aaron Lau, Erin Palm, Sayer Roberts, Harper Smith and Sheryl Anne McMillan) with some of Vancouver’s brightest new musical theatre artists, including the critically-acclaimed directing team of Shel Piercy, choreographers Shelley Stewart Hunt and Julie Tomaino, music director Kerry O’Donovan, set designer Francesca Albertazzi and costumes by Christina Sinosich.

This pair of tickets really rates up there in my Van Sexy Date Picks.  Speaking of which if I manage to make it back in town in time for this, I will be needing a date of my own to take.  So single gents that are kind hearted and hard working with a sense of humour can line up here.  In the meantime back to the contest …

To enter to win this pair of tickets, you simply need to complete the sentence “I love you, because …” in the comments below. You can be talking about your significant other, your family, your best bud, your best bud’s sister, your cat … I don’t care who, as long as you complete the sentence, by Saturday February 4th at midnight PST.

To be entered a second, third and fourth time:

  • Tweet this post with @Roamancing and #VancouverTheatre somewhere in the tweet, so I see the tweet;
  • Share this post on facebook and include @Roamancing in the text when you post it (this should link Roamancing’s facebook page, so I’ll see the post); and/or
  • Share this post on G+ and include @Roamancing in the text when you post it (this should alert me on G+ of your post).

From the entries, I will draw the name of one lucky winner on Sunday February 5th, 2012, for a pair of tickets to I Love You Because … at Studio 1398 (formally PTC) on Granville Island on Wednesday February 8th, 2012 at 8 pm.

If sadly you don’t win, you can still get tickets to I Love You Because … here. You may want to check out the Valentines Day Show, as it includes a rose for every woman attending and all the champagne you can drink.

Kisses,

Emme xoxo

Meet Lucy Duck & Other New Travelers

I’m a little overdue in introducing a few new travelers to our mix, including Lucy Duck, our first storyteller to join us from the UK.

Some of you may have noticed from facebook, twitter, youtube, and G+ that Lucy Duck joined us from Chasing Ducks Blog back in December and has been having all sorts of adventures with our travelers in Canada and Egypt thus far.

Satchmo roamancing the red boots from the Canadian wintery wilds.

Other new storytellers to the site, include mainstream media travel writer, Jacqueline Swartz, who has shared a couple of tales from Vienna, and our producer, Erica Hargreave, who was roamancing the red boots in Egypt in December. We’ve even recently had our first handsome golden haired male sporting the red boots from the Canadian wilds.

We’ll be adding Lucy, Jacqueline, Erica and Satchmo to our list of traveler’s shortly and look forward to hearing more of their tales, along with some from Lori Yearwood, our other producer.

Kisses,

Emme   xoxo

Snowy Canadian Flashbacks to the Tub at Le Chamois

What is life without indulgence from time to time.

Indulgence can come in many different forms ~ a glass of exquisite wine, a rather scrumptious piece of chocolate, or simply stealing a quiet moment in the sunshine.  For me, one of my favourite indulgences is a good soak.  I love relaxing in hot water and wallowing all my worries away.

Wallowing away my worries.

It is for this reason and the a bit of Whistler inspiration that encouraged me to indulge in the column ‘The World’s Best Soaks‘.

Tub Bliss at Le Chamois Whistler

The inspiration came in the form of the most incredible tub, and after a rather bruised tail bone from my first snowboarding lesson, I have got to say it was sent from the heavens.  The tub in question was this one at Le Chamois in Whistler, BC, Canada.  Pure blissful indulgence, that I’ve been having lovely flashbacks to all week, as the beautiful snow has been falling on Canada.

Hoping if I win the Whistler Sabbatical, that I get this tub in a cat friendly room.

For another indulgent Whistler, BC soak, check out Scandinave Spa. Pure bliss!

So curious, where’s your best soak been, whether in a tub, at a spa, or in some hot springs?

Kisses,

Emme xoxo
