How do you spend your time in the hotel room after your kids have gone to sleep? Sharing a room is fun during the day, but what do you do at night? In order for our kids to fall asleep, the television and all of the lights have to be off. We realize we are suddenly stuck. We can’t even talk. The first time we were in this situation we just sat like frozen statues and got so bored we had an attack of the giggles. We have tried various things since then.
We have waited patiently until the kids were asleep and then turned the TV back on to watch a movie. We have also planned ahead and brought candles and some drinks. In rooms that have balconies we have gone to sit outside where we can still talk and pretend that we are sitting on the patio of a cool bar. If we are lucky enough to be at a swanky hotel we will take our candles and drinks into the bathroom to enjoy a jacuzzi tub soak. Sometimes the best option is to go to sleep when your kids do. Any parent knows that getting a good night’s sleep is a very precious gift.
No one comes home from their family vacation and talks about this part. I’m curious…what do you do?
