Hotel Bedtime Predicament when Travelling with Kids

How do you spend your time in the hotel room after your kids have gone to sleep? Sharing a room is fun during the day, but what do you do at night?  In order for our kids to fall asleep, the television and all of the lights have to be off.  We realize we are suddenly stuck.  We can’t even talk.  The first time we were in this situation we just sat like frozen statues and got so bored we had an attack of the giggles.  We have tried various things since then.

These beds are so close, even a whisper would keep the kids up.

We have waited patiently until the kids were asleep and then turned the TV back on to watch a movie.  We have also planned ahead and brought candles and some drinks.  In rooms that have balconies we have gone to sit outside where we can still talk and pretend that we are sitting on the patio of a cool bar.  If we are lucky enough to be at a swanky hotel we will take our candles and drinks into the bathroom to enjoy a jacuzzi tub soak.  Sometimes the best option is to go to sleep when your kids do.  Any parent knows that getting a good night’s sleep is a very precious gift.

No one comes home from their family vacation and talks about this part.  I’m curious…what do you do?

I don’t have kinds and hence not this probelm. But it’s a subject I wanted to read abiut anyway and to me the solution of ‘bar pretend’ on the balcony seems quite entertaining.

Hmmmm, I would get a suite and put the kids in the other room.

I don’t have to deal with this issue but I don’t like the sound of it!

You sleep so you’re ready to go when they get up at that very early hour!

I guess if you look at it like a fun challenge-anything can be fun.
We were fortunate enough to get a complimentary suite upgrade once and that was the greatest time ever! The kids actually had their own phone in their section so they kept calling us pretending like they had their own apartment. At night they didn’t want anything to do with us-they said they would call in the morning!

Yes! I like this breaking all the rules idea! Those are the kinds of moments our kids remember forever.
