I remember. I remember that I feel safe, because others faced horrors so that I, and others of my generation and generations before me might grow up feeling safe. I remember that I am free, because others died for my generation and generations before me’s freedoms. I remember that I am equal, because others put their lives on the line for my generation and generations before me’s rights and equalities. That is why I take the time to remember …
This year I also remember that not everyone is free, like I am. I remember that not everyone takes their equality for granted, the way I do. And I remember that not everyone enjoys the same rights to freedom of speech and choice, that I do.
But most of all I remember that everyone should enjoy these same freedoms, rights and equalities.
This November and past year has reminded us that we cannot take these freedoms, rights and equalities for granted, and how important it is that we work towards creating a world in which more people are able to start taking these freedoms, rights and equalities for granted. So that we all might one day remember.

Thanks for a beautiful piece about remembering the cost of our freedom. Our freedom has been paid for by those who fought and died over centuries and is all too soon forgotten or surrendered, even by Western government leaders too.
