Legacy of the Red Boots

Every time I talk to my mom and tell her I’ve been cleaning out a room, cupboard or closet, she says “Did you find any treasures?”  I always kind of roll my eyes tell her that this time, like all the others, just gave me the gift of a clean space.  Today, to my unbelievable surprise, I did find a treasure!  As I was going through the last few boxes in our unpacking I found a box that an old friend had given me before she moved away.  On the box she had written ‘Open whenever, you will know when the time is right.’  A flash of memories came flooding back to me.  I remember the day she gave it to me.  I knew by that note that I wasn’t supposed to open it right away so I put the box away.  With the couple of moves we have made I guess it ended up in one of the few boxes we put right into storage.  A few years have gone by since that day and now that we finally have the time to go through everything, I discovered it again.

Treasure From An Old Friend

I opened the box and inside there was a pair of shiny red boots with a note.

The Red Boots

The note said:

My dearest Brie,

These boots were once very special to me.  They have walked many miles and have added a certain spice to all my adventures.  My life has been enriched by the happiness these boots have brought to me and at this point I feel I am being selfish by keeping them to myself.  It is time for you to enjoy them and give them new life.  I have had them repolished and beautified for you.  Now get out and live life!

A Note To Explain And Inspire

Wow!  I feel a great responsibility, but am really excited about this joy booster.  I have already decided that I am going to share these boots with Emme.  I don’t ever want to think of them just sitting in a box or closet again and I want to share the happiness I felt today.  I wonder what they have experienced already.  Oh if these boots could talk….

Well, those are just DARLING! Can’t believe you could just find a cute pair of boots in your closet as a surprise. And what a thoughtful one!! It is absolutely pouring here in Lexington, Kentucky (the rain is drumming on the roof as I write) so I could them myself. Keep us updated on the boot adventures!!
