Mexican Dishes and Drinks in Sinaloa

I’ve got one thing to shout out here … Chiiilooooorrrrrio!!!! (Pronounced Chilorio, but must be said in an excited holler type of fun vacation voice with the rolling of the r’s accentuated)  I have to say that during our stay in Mexico, breakfasts were by far our most interesting meals.  We woke one morning to find our friend cooking up a pot of meet which she explained was a pork dish called Chilorio native to the Sinaloa region.  She then proceeded to add several eggs to it! The Mexican dishes and drinks we enjoyed in general while in Sinaloa were all very exciting.

The method …

And the final product …

The final product. This was delicious in tortillas. The addition of eating salsa with eggs is a brilliant new tradition for us too.

On a different morning we enjoyed shredded beef cooked with peppers and onions, creamy beans and tamales with fresh cheese. Not your typical American breakfast, but jump starting the day with a kick of spicy pepper sauce and salsa was really growing on us; admittedly so was a bit of a belly!

YUM!
YUM!

Among the other interesting things we had for breakfast was a mini personal sized quesadilla with ham and cheese melted inside with a fried egg on top.  This one I can do at home for sure! I’d like to just jump right from breakfast into the new interesting drinks we had as we partied into the evenings, but it’s best to at least eat something else first, so here’s an authentic take on fish tacos!

This restaurant was right by the water and served freshly caught fish, which we turned into tacos of course!

A perfect pairing for fish tacos would be some sort of a Cerveza, and we were treated to the perfect one … a beer cocktail called a Michelada, (pronounced meechalada).  They bring you a salt rimmed glass filled with lemon juice and some sort of spices, which you then pour your beer into. Oh my-my-my, I did not expect this to be so good! It’s a little dangerous as well, because it makes your beer so smooth that you drink it within minutes.

Simple, yet so divine! The fusion of beer, lemon and salt.

I do have to admit though, that the most perfect pairing of the trip is one that I put together myself.  I don’t think it took any special talent to come up with the idea, but I consider the moments I enjoyed with my wine in a hammock as quite genus! Not to mention capturing such a beautiful photo half a glass in! If only I had two trees close together back at home.

Wow everything looks great except for the fish in the tacos. 🙂 I’m not a big fish fan to begin with.

Thanks! I have to admit, I’m never one to order fish either. This was my first time having one arrive on my plate like that! I just passed it over to my husband and he put it in the tacos for me. It really was extremely delicious!

WOW!! These are some yummy foods. I’m so addicted to eat tortillas. My favorite. Whenever I get time to prepare a meal I go for tortillas. It’s one of the greatest Mexican food item and I really like it.

I love eating Mexican food but even some of these look so different. I love Tamales but we call them Pastelles in Trinidad but I think they are very similar with the meat mixture in cornflour steamed. Lovely Photos!!

Hi Brie !, interesting to read about the food in sinaloa region of mexico.Mexican food is popular even here in India as well as the taste of food is similar to Indian food and this is what makes Indians fall for Mexican delicacies.Mexican or Spanish Rice and Chile Rellenoes are particularly famous.

I really love Indian food! What I would love to do is go on a cooking tour of the world and spend some time with different families learning to cook their cultural dishes.

I was scared of the fish at first too Stefan!

Hopefully you’re able to make it to Mexico one day. Here in the states there are a lot of Mexican restaurants all around, but nothing really compares to a good authentic home cooked meal from a local.

I wish I could get over to Germany because I LOVE the food there…..and beer : )

    Hey, great share…..

For me it’s quite an interesting topic to discuss about as I am a huge food and wine lover. I am also very fond of authentic Mexican cuisine and these cuisines tastes fabulous with wines.

I have not tried Chilorio yet. I am surely gonna taste it now. Thanks for sharing this cuisine. It really appears delicious.

    Keep sharing more……

Thanks Larry! So happy I could give you something new to try. I agree, wine is also a very good paring with Mexican meals. They tend to inspire me towards tequila but a good glass of wine works with anything I think!

    Thanks Jos!

I agree with you on “health is wealth”! We always eat so differently when on vacation, allowing ourselves so many more indulgences. We definitely all had heavy bellies after this trip. We take probiotics when we travel now and that really helps to avoid any digestive troubles.

I hope your wife gets inspired to try one of these dishes…or better yet…. take on the challenge yourself and surprise her!
