Roamancing Swiss Views: Our Switzerland Swimsuit Illustrated Exposé

We (or at least ‘I’) couldn’t help ourselves!  When we’d heard that Swimsuit Illustrated had kicked of 2014 with their own Swimsuit Illustrated edition of Swiss Views, we decided we had to show them up with our own Roamancing Edition of Swimsuit Swiss Views!  Although as you’ll see from the post below we were somewhat loose in our definition of a ‘swimsuit’.  Seems our only consistent criteria was that the roamancing red boots were parading their way through our shots!

As we landed to sunshine in Zürich (after a long, icy cold Canadian winter) it was hard not to be tickled at the idea of stripping down and baring it all in Switzerland, rubbing in the beautiful Spring weather to all back in the snow and ice of Canada.

I gleefully danced through the streets of Zürich’s old town, looking for the perfect backdrop to strip down to my skivvies in front of!  The only thing holding me back, aside from a few nerves, was my German companion.  Seems he was certain I’d get arrested, which would have definitely made for an interesting tale on only my second day in Switzerland!  Rather surprised me, as I did not expect him to be such a prude, but it would seem that there were cultural stereotypes at play here, including the one that the Swiss were a reserved culture.  In compromise, I found a dock to shoot from, that afforded the illusion of a bit of privacy, and I only stripped down from the waist up!

Must admit, this first photo shoot was rather exhilarating!  And it seems to have broken the ice, as both Erica and Dirk poised for swimsuit shots later that night from the rooftop thermal baths at the B2 Hotel Zurich!

… and Erica was even game for a wee photo shoot in the B2 Boutique Hotel’s ancient malt vaults of the former brewery, converted into thermal baths.  I should note here that Erica was a most considerate spa patron and those boots never hit the water, which really rather impressed, as we all had our reservations as to her coordination.  Apparently she does have some!

And as it would turn out, Dirk was not such a prude after all, readily agreeing to an impromptu shoot inspired by the magnificent shower in my room at the B2 Boutique Hotel!

Most certainly the most divine shower that I’ve ever enjoyed!

Sadly, (or perhaps responsibly, as had he not ignored my requests, I would have arrived in Bern late, which is something rather frowned upon in Switzerland) Dirk ignored all my requests to go in search of cows on our drive from Zürich to Bern (via Lucerne), so I could shoot what in my mind was the ‘pièce de résistance’ of Swiss Views – me in my unmentionables in a beautiful rolling green Swiss pasture, surrounded by cows!  Suppose I will have to return to Switzerland one day to make this scene a reality.  Erica, however, did capture what she believes to be the ‘pièce de résistance’ of Swiss Cow Views, when she was visiting a dairy farm in Gruyère.

Debatably, while I could see this being the ‘pièce de résistance’ of Swiss Cow Views for Erica, I am somewhat disappointed in her for not at least decladding to her swimsuit.

Seems this became a bit of an issue for Erica, outside the safety of the B2 Boutique Spa, as was suggested by these shots at Chateau du Gruyères.

Thinking perhaps we need to hire Erica a wardrobe mistress to explain the concept of ‘swimsuit’ shoot! [photographer: Marleen Fässler]

How she thought that was acceptable for a Swimsuit Illustrated-esque photo shoot is quite beyond me.  Clearly she needed some lessons in stripping down.  So I decided to give her just that from my balcony at Grand Hotel Du Lac in Vevey …

Warm weather, this Spring!

Positively balmy out here!

Seems Erica got the guts up, as she had rather a blast frolicking away for this little photo shoot on a lake outside of Lucerne.

Thinking Erica’s starting to get the hang of the swimsuit pin-up poise!

As for my stroll amoung the terraced vineyards of the Lavaux UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Chemin de la Dame, I will let your imagination run wild at the scene behind these shots. Sufficed to say Dagmar Bloom was a hoot of a co-conspirator!

Breathtaking already, can you imagine them with foliage and grapes?!?

The highlight for me, however, was stripping right down to my panties in front of CERN!!!

CERN in Switzerland
Yep, that’s CERN in the background!

Really was uber geeking out to this with every linux whispering and science geeky fibre of my being!  I was standing in front of CERN, IN MY UNDERWEAR!!!  Felt so uninhibited and over-the-moon excited to be there that I may have forgotten about the time difference to North America, and woke Brie up at 2 am to tell her what I was doing!  (I’ve decide I blame her for not turning her phone off, secretly glad that she answered, though.)  I even danced the Roamancing Travel Happy Dance in my panties in front of CERN!!! (Yes, that’s on camera too, but you shall have to wait for another day for me to share it!) The only thing that would have been more fantastic on my last full day in Switzerland, would have been to have had that photo shoot in the actual depths of CERN, next to the Hadron Collider!!!

Above ground view of CERN!
How can you not want to dance!!! That’s CERN!!!

(And yes, I am aware that I used ‘!!!’ a lot in that paragraph, but that is just how excited I still am at that day! Tempted to use even more ‘!’!)

Alas, in spending the rest of the day regaling Erica with my bravado in front of CERN, she happily captured these two images as we strolled along Geneva‘s Les Bains des Pâquis …

Was rather tempted to join these British gals!
Late March scene in Geneva, Switzerland
Oh la la!

Seems I was not so risqué, as I was giving myself credit for, and it seems that the Swiss were not as reserved a culture as Dirk had initially feared.

All in all, it left me longing to one day return to Switzerland, and looking forward to the adventures that that trip might hold!
