Travel Happy Dancing Around Switzerland

When you visit Switzerland for the first time, how can you not dance with delight! I know we certainly couldn’t contain our excitement as we found ourselves travel happy dancing around Switzerland!

Thanks to my Dad often bringing us home those little Swiss chocolate squares wrapped up in pretty pictures of Switzerland, as a kid from his work trips, I’d long dreamed of visiting what for me was a storybook land, filled with the delights of delectable milk chocolate, scrumptious cheese, picturesque mountainsides with cows to talk to, and Saint Bernards to befriend. So when I finally got the chance to visit, I couldn’t help myself, I had to travel happy dance myself around Switzerland with Emme and the pure joy of the kid that was now in living colour inside all of those picturesque Swiss scenes!

In case it is not abundantly obvious, we had a rather grand time on this first visit to Switzerland and enjoyed a lot of silly fun, including our own Switzerland Swimsuit Illustrated Exposé of Swiss Views! I blame Emme for that one!

Some of the places that we travel happy danced around in Switzerland included …

Zürich

People enjoying the lawn in a public park, soaking in the Spring sun in Zurich.

It’s hard not to fall in love with Zürich, where history meets new, trendy, and edgy – especially in the Spring, when the warm weather means everyone is out enjoying the sun and Spring flowers, relaxing on the lawns and playing on the water.

A Lake A Short Distance from Lucerne

As we road tripped from Zürich to Lucerne, we couldn’t resist stopping at this lake outside of Lucerne to splash about in the water, giving us pure delight. Not only did we encounter a wee lizard sunning itself, but locals were already swimming out to a floating raft.

Gruyères

When you are in a town named for its cheese, how can you not dance with delight!

Gruyères Old Town

… and dancing does help after you’ve indulged in the hot and gooey goodness of a fondue for lunch at Cafe-Restaurant des Remparts, before heading off to explore the HR Giger Museum or Château du Gruyères … otherwise known as …

Gruyères Castle

Snow falling on school kids in the courtyard at Gruyere Castle.

I love how it snowed while we were there, making it even more magical to explore.

La Ferme du Bourgoz

Calendar Gal Pose with the Gruyere Cows.

I’d like to think our dance for the Gruyère cows at La Ferme du Bourgoz was a nice way to thank them for all the cheese that is so udderly delicious! If nothing else, hopefully it gave the farmers a good chuckle and something to share with their guests over a delicious home baked breakfast at their farm stay bed and breakfast, La Ferme du Bourgoz.

Broc

Maison Cailler

When you realize you’ve been gifted the golden ticket that grants you access to explore behind to doors to a CHOCOLATE FACTORY!!! And not just any chocolate factory, but that of Maison Cailler, full of SWISS CHOCOLATE!!! You too would be doing the travel happy dance and smooching a chocolate cow!

Lavaux

Cheese and chocolate and WINE, OH MY!!! I mean really, does life get any better than this! Of course, we were found travel happy dancing in the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces. Not only is this a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but we got to meet and enjoy a refreshing glass of Chasselas with Christelle Conne of Cave Champ de Close, one of the trailblazing women winemakers in Switzerland. Isn’t life grand!

Vevey

It really is grand, when next you find yourself in the lap of luxury at the Grand Hotel du Lac in Vevey, surrounded by the rich and famous. So much so that the waiter at Le Café des Trois Sifflets even gushed with excitement thinking I was a famous jazz musician! I mean the Grand Hotel du Lac had called in our reservation, so I MUST be somebody famous. In looking up the fabulous musician’s photo, I was rather flattered by what I found, until my friend informed me that the jazz musician in question was now in her 60s (with me still in my 30s at the time). Regardless, Emme decided it was an excuse to travel happy dance on the steps of the Grand Hotel du Lac as though we were rockstars! After all, when in Vevey …

Inspiring stories at the Grand Hotel du Lac

Geneva

People enjoying an outdoor bite on the water at Bains des Pâquis.

While we were sad to see our time in Switzerland come to an end, wrapping it up by partying with expats in Geneva had us dancing in places that made us grin with nerdy delight, including …

United Nations

Sadly no one asked us to come inside and dance for any foreign dignitaries. Clearly their loss.

CERN

CERN totally had the scientists and Big Bang fan girls in us geeking out in delight, and it wasn’t just us gushing over CERN, we may just have had a couple of CERN scientists gushing over our dancing!!! The perfect end to a perfect adventure!!!

Thank you Switzerland!

I don’t know which I like more, the place, the cowboy dance, or the cowboy clothings

Ha! Chuckling at the cowboy dance and cowboy clothing, as I suspect people that actually are cowboys would be horrified at the comparison, but I did have cows.

Thanks. Switzerland is a beautiful place with tasty eats. I enjoyed exploring it and its cultures.

I haven’t had the opportunity of traveling out of my country, and whenever I do, Switzerland will be one of them.
